Macomb Baptist Church exists to proclaim Jesus Christ through admonishing and teaching every person with all wisdom to present every person mature in Christ.
Our mission statement is a summary of Colossians 1:28 and guides our decisions as a church.
"Proclaim" is to declare, report, or announce especially in a public setting. This word is used exclusively in the book of Acts and in the Pauline epistles - which contain excerpts from various sermons preached in the first century.
The Son of God is the focal point of what we do here at Macomb Baptist Church (Colossians 1:18). He is the Head of the Church. He is the High Priest that every person needs. It is through His shed blood that a person has remission of sins. It is through His righteousness that a person can stand justified before the Father (2 Corinthians 5:21).
"Admonishing" conveys the idea of warning, sounding an alarm to people in all spiritual conditions. The key difference between preaching and teaching is that preaching is reproving, rebuking, and exhorting (2 Timothy 4:2).
The content of the teaching is the Word of God - the only rule of our faith and obedience, the only rule to direct us how we may glorify God and enjoy Him forever (John 17:17). This would rule out man's philosophy.
Our goal of spiritual growth includes men, women, children, married, unmarried, all ethnic groups, from every background, and in every spiritual level (Galatians 3:28).
Wisdom is the ability to apply the truth to the specific aspects of life. The only way to obtain real wisdom is to fear the Lord (Proverbs 9:10)
This word literally means, to stand beside - using an illustration of a courtroom setting where an individual approaches the bar. Scripture reveals that believers will appear before Jesus at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Corinthains 5:10). Due to the faithful admonishing and teaching of God's Word, and the individual's reception of it, he/she will be presented not as a stranger, but as a friend of Christ.
Spiritual maturity is based not on age or years the person has been a Christian, but on one's handling of the Word of God. Mature Christians are able to digest the meat of the Word and have long been weaned off of the milk of the Word (Hebrews 5:12-14). This has an emphasis on discipleship - of disciples making disciples. Discipleship can occur only by putting into action what one has been taught and must be followed up by works. Therefore, the person is actively involved in ministry and investing in the lives of others (2 Timothy 2:2).
